SULKY® SOLVY

SULKY® SOLVY

The softer and bulkier the fabric, the easier stitches disappear in the material, resulting in unsightly embroideries. With SULKY SOLVY every single stitch turns out brilliantly, and even intricate patterns with most detailed embroideries are stitched needle-sharp. The trick is a water-soluble foil that is placed on the fabric prior to embroidering and then washed out without leaving any residues. Even elastic knit fabrics and terry cloth can be embroidered with ease and precision! SOLVY can also be used as fabric backing when both sides of the embroidery are visible – for neat results, e.g. on scarves or towels.

  • a thin and clear water-soluble foil used as a backing or topping
  • easily tearable wash-out topping for high pile fabrics
  • ideal when you do not want any stabilizer residues to show on the top or bottom of fabric
  • foil dissolves in cold water - faster in warm water
  • transparent

SULKY® SOLVY

Machine embroidery:

Solvy prevents embroidery stitches sinking into fleecy materials (e.g. towelling, fleece, cord). lt serves solely as an overlay material
and can not replace an appropriate embroidery webbing, which acts as a stabiliser (embroidery underlay).
1. Mount the material (with embroidery webbing as underlay and Solvy applied as overlay) in the embroidery frame.
2. Embroider the desired design.
3. After the embroidery is complete, carefully tear or wash away excess Solvy. II you are working with towelling and wish to avoid embroidery webbing residues on the reverse, place several layers of Solvy under the towel.

Sewing extremely fine, light materials:

1. Place material between two layers of Solvy and sew as normal.
2. When complete, carefully tear away excess Solvy.
3. Remove remnants of Solvy with a damp cotton bud or wash.

Creating buttonholes in fine, light fabrics:

Buttonholes can be sewn into very fine, light fabrics without insert.
1. Place fabric between two layers of Solvy and sew buttonhole as normal.
2. When complete, carefully tear away excess Solvy.
3. Remove remnants of Solvy with a damp cotton bud or wash.

Embroidery and quilting:

1. Draw pattern onto Solvy using a water soluble pen.
2. Pin or tack film to the fabric or quilt.
3. Sew or quilt pattern as normal either by machine or hand.
4. When complete, carefully tear away excess Solvy.
5. Remove remnants of Solvy with a damp cotton bud.
Protect against damp and drying out. Store in a sealed plastic bag.
